About us
Our approach involves a comprehensive evaluation and adaptation of CAMS global and European-scale products to align with national reporting requirements

ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence (ECoE), as a National Focal Point of CAMS NCP, is leading an effort to integrate CAMS products into national systems. This initiative aims to tailor CAMS data to Cyprus’ specific geographical and climatic conditions, creating targeted applications, while through institution’s participation at international research infrastructures (e.g. ACTRIS-ERIC) and its advanced equipment of the Cyprus Atmospheric Remote Sensing Observatory (CARO) in place it is expected to achieve the goals set. The strategy prioritizes incorporation of CAMS products with existing national air quality networks, stakeholder engagement, fostering collaboration with key national entities to ensure the developed tools satisfy regulatory and practical needs. The project also emphasizes capacity building to train local experts in the utilization and interpretation of CAMS products for enhanced decision-making. Furthermore, through the dissemination of UVI forecasts, the public will be educated about the optimal durations for sun exposure and by harnessing climatological UV radiation data specific to Cyprus, relevant authorities will proactively institute measures aimed at mitigating the potential risks and adverse consequences associated with prolonged sun exposure.
Main Objectives - Reporting
- Enhance the reporting capabilities and practices related to air quality management using relevant CAMS products
- Generating impactful reports on the use of CAMS products
- Integrating advanced reporting tools to optimize the reporting process
- The goal is to facilitate effective reporting to the European Commission, the European Environment Agency (EEA), and at the international level
- Supporting comprehensive air quality assessments and compliance with regulatory legislation

Main Objectives - Use of CAMS Products
- Focuses on optimizing the application
- Use of CAMS products specifically for Cyprus
- Tailoring solutions to address the country's unique air quality monitoring needs
- Improving public health
- Environmental safety
- Utilizing CAMS products to develop an advanced forecasting model for particulate matter
- Giving special emphasis on dust that is a major issue for the air quality of the island mostly during spring
- Aims to enhance UV index forecasts over Cyprus and educate the public about the risk and benefits of sun exposure

Existing Knowledge
ECoE, currently provides useful information utilizing CAMS productsin stakeholders and the public using two operational platforms.
Agrinexus Hub
Agri Nexus Hub, now, is an open-access application that supports farmers in their day-to-day irrigation practices. Cyprus is a water scarce area, and the adaptation of irrigation optimization techniques is essential. The open-access web platform offers daily evapotranspiration calculation over Cyprus in a 500m resolution and crop evapotranspiration in parcel-level for the three important crops of Cyprus agricultural industry, based on their importance for the economy and their water consumption.
- Support farmers
- Useful tool for Cyprus
- Reduce Farmers cost and increase their income
CERYFOS UVI Nexus Hub
The Cyprus Erythemal Radiation Forecasting System (CERYFOS) is a newly established platform that delivers forecasts of the Ultraviolet Index (UVI). CERYFOS strives to disseminate guidance on judicious sun exposure. This initiative provides guidance on prudent sun exposure. The CERYFOS platform provides hourly UVI forecasts for the upcoming two days, with a spatial resolution of 0.1×0.1 degrees specifically tailored for Cyprus.
- UVI forecasts
- Educate the public about sun exposure
- UV radiation data
