CAMS user intelligence and user interaction session with Cyprus and Malta

Under the CAMS (Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service) and ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) “CAMS user intelligence” project, a productive User Interaction Session (UIS) was held with representatives from Cyprus, Malta, DLR, ECMWF, ERA, and the Eratosthenes Center of Excellence (ECoE). Cyprus and Malta were chosen due to shared environmental challenges, such as dust events, high solar radiation, and air quality concerns impacting public health, tourism, and agriculture.

In this productive meeting with representatives from DLR, ECMWF, ERA, and the Eratosthenes Center of Excellence (ECoE), participants emphasized the importance of collaboration in environmental monitoring and data collection. Key discussions focused on addressing aerosol and dust-related challenges through the CAMS user intelligence contract. It was provided insights into ongoing projects and regional environmental issues, particularly in Cyprus. The group highlighted the need for shared strategies to enhance air quality monitoring, with plans for further interviews and workshops on the horizon. The meeting set a clear path forward for stakeholder engagement and joint efforts in tackling pressing environmental challenges.
